oh, also: sew those swatches together and make a freeform piece! can you crochet at all? you could crochet a border around them or something to give them some unity, but you don't even need to do that-- the colors look good together as they are!

I bought one of the kits because I couldn't imagine more perfect colors. I have enough left over for mitts, which I think I should go for now that I have a sense of how fingerless mitts go and I think I might be crafty enough to enact my corrugated rib fingers plan.

Snawheid is super pretty. The only reason I'm skipping it is that it makes me sad that I don't get to see snow much any more.

your peerie floers is amazing! did you buy one of the kits, or did you pick the colors yourself? colorwork is still something i haven't done much of, though i've been thinking about kate davies' "snawheid" pattern since it should work for some blue & white yarn that pat's mom bought for me in shetland. and i'll be excited to see what you do with all that icelandic yarn; i've been curious about it, mysefl!

ooo jealous! i haven't been to the new verb shop, but i visited their pre-shop warehouse space in oakland about 2 years ago & found them all to be lovely people (with lovely yarns!). when i finish my damn dissertation (at the end of the summer), pat & i will definitely be making an SF trip & we hope to see you!

Been there... done that... although, admittedly, with strands of yarn vs a gorgeous large project, such as in your photos. Arghhhhh...

The burning rubber smell is from the vacuum cleaner's belt.

Thanks! I looooove that abrazo and want to bead everything (working on a beaded mystery KAL right now).

The hooks-thing is a knitting machine. I'm having to leave mine behind in New York for now but if I ever get a larger apartment in California I'm going to set up some studio space and FIGURE THEM OUT (even if I have to hire a knitting machine tutor). They are so different from hand knitting!

And thanks about the clapotis, also! I went for "unconventional yarn choices" for mine, which made it super squishy.

yay, your abrazo came out awesomely! i love that colorway. is that thing with all the hooks a loom?? interesting! i can't quite tell what's going on with all the giant-knitting, but i'm intrigued.

and yeah, now that there's the differently-shaped clapotis i feel like my prejudice can be overcome and i could imagine knitting one. yours looks great! (a few years ago, as you may recall, everybody in the entire knitting world knit a clapotis and i felt like i had to say "not me" -- not unlike how i felt about the new kids on the block back in elementary school.)

ooh, awesome! i just bought my first skein of jade sapphire on my recent trip to austin: it's their mongolian cashmere in a dark gold/brown color and i want to marry it. it'll be featured on my blog sooner or later.
